SIPTU representatives are seeking an urgent meeting with management at Valeo Vision Systems in Tuam, county Galway, following a decision by the company to make 60 staff redundant. SIPTU Organiser, Pat Flannery, said: “Our members have been shocked by this announcement. There had been no prior indication by management that jobs were under threat at the plant which produces electronic systems for the automotive industry.” He added: “It is understood that the redundancies are being sought on a voluntary basis initially. SIPTU representatives have requested an urgent meeting with management to discuss the situation and we will be seeking to ensure that a proper consultative process is entered into in relation to these threatened redundancies.”
