SIPTU representatives are seeking an urgent meeting with the management of Mondelez Ireland following the company’s announcement that it intends to implement up to 160 redundancies at its plants in Coolock, county Dublin, and Rathmore, county Kerry. SIPTU Organiser, Colm Casserly, said: “The announcement that the company is seeking such large-scale redundancies has come as a complete shock to the workforces and their respective communities. “Employees at both plants have given sterling service to the company over the years. The bombshell of this announcement when coupled with the news that production is being transferred from the Coolock facility to Poland has turned shock to anger.” He added: “SIPTU representatives are seeking an urgent meeting with management to ascertain the full ramifications of this announcement. We will be attempting to minimise the number of redundancies to the greatest degree possible.” Mondelez Ireland produces a range of leading confectionary products. The company’s plant in Rathmore was established in 1948 and the Coolock plant (formerly Cadburys) opened in 1964.
