SIPTU representatives were fully briefed by the management of RTÉ yesterday (Tuesday, 21st March) prior to its announcement this morning that it intends to implement a restructuring of the organisation and sell a portion of its campus in Donnybrook, Dublin 4. SIPTU Organiser, Graham Macken, said: “While SIPTU representatives have concerns at the potential loss of any jobs we welcome the fact that the restructuring of the organisation will be carried out with the direct involvement of the RTÉ Trade Union Group. Decisions will be made following the necessary consultation, negotiation and agreement. “It is accepted that any job losses resulting from this restructuring will only be achieved by voluntary means. There will be no compulsory redundancies.” He added: “It is intended to use the proceeds from the sale of the land to make necessary capital investments in upgrading technology and systems. It will also ensure that buildings are adapted in order to modernise the working environment for all staff. “It is envisaged that this plan will be rolled out over the next two years without any impact on staff for at least the next six months.”
