SIPTU representatives are today (Tuesday, 12th May) attending talks facilitated by the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) aimed at finding a resolution to a dispute over plans to privatise 10% of Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann routes. SIPTU Construction and Utilities Division Organiser, Owen Reidy, said he hoped that agreement could be reached at the talks. However, he said that strike action by Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann drivers scheduled for Friday (15th May) and Saturday (16th May) will proceed as planned if the talks fail to achieve a resolution of the issues.He said: “What our members are looking for is not unreasonable. It is the responsibility of the employers to get their act together to try and address the consequences of privatisation.SIPTU has presented the management of the bus companies and the National Transport Authority with a six point agenda which could form the basis of an agreed resolution to the dispute.The six point agenda deals with issues surrounding the security of bus drivers’ terms and conditions of employment as well as the long-term future of public bus services.”
