SIPTU Vice-President, Gene Mealy, has called for an acceleration in the restoration of pay and conditions of employment for public servants. Responding to the public debate surrounding the future of the Lansdowne Road Agreement and the improvement in public finances, Gene Mealy said that all workers in the public service who suffered hardship and pay cuts during the crisis years must now benefit from any accelerated restoration agreement. He said: “All public servants, regardless of grade, category or profession who suffered hardship and contributed significantly during the crisis, must now benefit in any accelerated restoration agreement. “Those who call for sectoral restoration are failing to take cognisance of the contribution made by all public servants, particularly those on low pay. “All discussions on this issue should be dealt with by the parties which negotiated the Public Sector Agreements, including the Lansdowne Road Agreement.”
