The SIPTU Community Sector has stated that the decision by South Dublin County Council (SDCC) to maintain Community Employment and Job Initiative Scheme payments on a weekly basis is in the best interests of participants. SIPTU Organiser, Karen Smollen, said: “SDCC advised supervisors and participants in these schemes that it would be moving from weekly to fortnightly payments because it was moving to a new service which does not allow more regular payments.“Following representations by SIPTU Community Sector organisers it has been agreed that those involved in the Community Employment and Job Initiative Schemes will continue to be paid weekly. This will be done by South Dublin County Partnership taking over responsibility for paying participants involved in both schemes with effect from Tuesday, 29th January.”
