Sisters of Charity workers will hold a protest tomorrow (Wednesday, 2nd September) to highlight their demands for an urgent meeting with management to negotiate a fair redundancy package and protect services in the community. The socially distanced protest will take place between 11.00 a.m. and 12.00 p.m. outside the main entrance of St Monica’s Nursing Home on Belvedere Place, Dublin 1. SIPTU Organiser, Brian Condra, said: “It is time the Sisters of Charity met with union representatives and acknowledge that they have an integral part to play in achieving a just and fair redundancy for their former employees. Despite assurances that they would engage with union representatives, Sisters of Charity management has yet to live up to its word and meet with the workers’ representatives. This protest, organised by our members and supported by a large number of public representatives, from across the political spectrum, will reiterate these demands.” Lorraine Monaghan, INMO Assistant Director of Industrial Relations, said: "It has now been a full month since the Labour Court's decision for a fair redundancy package. Frontline staff are stuck in limbo and under immense pressure without any certainty for their future. There is no reason to delay justice. The Sisters of Charity should meet with unions immediately and honour their responsibilities to frontline healthcare workers." Fórsa Assistant General Secretary, Seán McElhinney, said: “The residents and their families have seen the care and compassion with which the workers at Sister of Charity facilities have discharged their duties over the years. It is essential that this level of quality health care is maintained. The HSE has to step up to the mark now and give our members assurances that these vulnerable residents, many of whom are like family to the staff, get the care they deserve,”
