The National Minimum Wage (Protection of Employee Bill Tips) Bill was passed following a vote of TDs in the Dáil today (Thursday, 20th June). The result of the vote was 75 in favour and 41 against, with Fine Gael and the majority of members of the Independent Alliance opting to oppose the Bill. SIPTU Organiser, Clement Shevlin, said: “The cross party support for this Bill marks a very step forward for workers’ rights. Hospitality workers are often on low pay and suffer disproportionate levels of exploitation in the workplace. Hospitality workers deserve fair treatment, decent wages and to keep the tips they work so hard for.”
