South-East Technological University (SETU): Waterford and Carlow Campuses

SIPTU representatives are engaging at the WRC conciliation service with officials from the Carlow Campus concerning the insourcing of work that has been previously outsourced. The Union is also engaging at the WRC conciliation service concerning Porters loss of earnings on the Waterford Campus and the roll-out of a Job Evaluation scheme for this grade.

Munster Technological University (MTU): Cork and Kerry Campuses

SIPTU representatives have engaged at WRC conciliation service concerning the expansion of the direct employment of cleaners at the Cork Campus. They also have an expectation of engagement at the WRC conciliation service regarding ‘in-housing’ of Portering and Security roles on the Kerry campus.

Maynooth University

SIPTU representatives have successfully negotiated ‘Unijobs principles’ with University management. These will severely limit the circumstances in which administrators can be hired using Unijobs on short-term contracts. A Senior Executive Administrator to Administrative Officer Grade II promotions scheme was agreed and our nominations to the appeals committee have been accepted. The appeals committee is expected to meet in January 2025.

There were significant delays concerning the introduction of this scheme but there was success in getting some retrospection applied to successful applicants.

Atlantic Technological University (ATU)

ATU is undergoing considerable organisational change with the merger of the various sites and transferring of St Angela’s into ATU. This coming together of cultures is and will provide some industrial issues and operational impacts over the next few years. The Industrial Relations forum which includes HR, management and unions has provided us with a good forum for engaging on IR matters that are impacting members because of the merger.
